Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who see women with pelvic floor symptoms, hip pain, or sacral pain, and who want a plain-language account of how one clinical team layered pelvic floor, musculoskeletal, and blood flow restriction interventions in a case of stress urinary incontinence.

Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in outpatient orthopaedic, sports, and pelvic health settings. Physical therapist assistants work under the direction of the supervising physical therapist, who performs the examination and sets the plan of care.

Based on

This course reports on a single published case report and does not add findings from any other source.

Gentile J, Enriquez C, Sentowski T, Lee JJ. A Multimodal Rehabilitation Approach to Stress Urinary Incontinence: A Case Report. JOSPT Cases. Advance publication.

The case describes one patient treated over 26 physical therapy sessions of 60 minutes each across 6 months. Every number reported in this course comes from that case report. Because a case report follows one person, it can describe what happened in that course of care but cannot establish that a treatment caused the change or that other patients would respond the same way.

A note on scope

The authors state that no institutional ethics review board was consulted, as the work involved standard patient care, and that the patient granted permission for her case to be reported. The case was not part of a public trial, and no financial support was received.
